Conversion causes corruption?

A few months ago I converted a FAT32 drive to NTFS. In the process about 5% of the zip files on that drive were corrupted. This past week I've been moving stuff around on that drive and I noticed every time I moved a bunch of files about 5% would end up getting corrupted, which is weird because I though moving files on a drive just changed the directory in the file system and didn't physically move the files at all. Is it possible that converting the drive is causing files on that drive to get corrupted? Or is it more likely that the drive itself is bad?

Before doing anything else BACK UP!

From the sound of it, it could be either possibilities. I know you don't want to hear this, but to rule out a bad drive *gulp* reformat your drive and reinstall the OS - see what happens. If the corruption happens again, it's time to shop for a new drive.
