mIRC Lag

For quite a while now, I have been experiencing lag connecting to all irc servers. It only started when I have added my Router to my network. Usually it is lightning fast. But now I have to wait 5 mins + just to connect. My ping reply to the servers is 50avg, so it isnt ping reply having the server in melbourne.

Does anyone know what might be causing this lag. Please I can't take it anymore.

By lag do you actualy mean lag or just that it takes a long time to connect?

If its the later then its quite likely because your router is dropping ident requests (port 113), so the server waits for a timeout before allowing your to connect. A possible fix would be to reject the ident request rather than drop it, an alternative would be to allow it through to the workstation.

Another potential cause could be that the server runs a port scan of each host the connects, looking for proxies etc. If this is the case and your router drops the scans rather than rejects them its again possible that you will have to wait for a timeout to expire before you will connect.
