Combining channels to create high quality video.

Several years ago there was talk about a consumer TV/device enabled to have 2 channels of input of the same program, synchronizing the frames to produce one high quality video stream(sound and picture). I never heard anything more of it, but the idea seems sound.

The reason I ask is that I have several(70 or 80) VHS tapes that have the same programs that I copied 2 or 3 times on them(Murphy Brown, The powers that be, many others) of poor quality, and I would like to make high quality output copy to DVD from the tapes.

Right now I have an ATI AIW-8500 radeon to copy with, but I cant figure out how to combine the channels.

I have done a couple of Google searches and found nothing that will allow me to combine the videos to one mpeg file can anyone help?

I don't believe there is such a device. Anything you record from a VHS tape has only 240 lines of resolution. The quality after it is encoded will be fair at best.
