A+ leads to DeVry Bachelor's Degree!

Well, almost....

4+ years ago I pushed my son into getting A+ certified and then he went on to graduate from DeVry. Now he is working for SBC (formerly Southern Pacific Bell) in IT management, making about $65K a year in salary and benifits -not a bad start in life!

He had been wondering where to spend his army education benefits and considering a DeVry telecommunications bechelor program but he didn't really seem that confident that he could stick with it. His experience to that point had been some minor PC upgrades, an interest in the internet, and using MS Office applications. Long story short - I passed down all my old A+ study guides and insisted that he trudge through them -which he did- after a few cram sessions he passed the A+ with relative ease (though unhappy with his OS score). Anyhow, that gave him some additional confidence that he had the ability to work with computers, and believe it or not, A+ certification garnered some respect from his peers and instructors at DeVry.

Would I recommend A+ -you bet.

Hey CMonster, I am planning to do some Comptia certifications. Besides A+, what other certifications do you recommend? I am considering Linux+, but do you think LPI certification is better?

My last inquiry; can an individual become a Comptia member? Thanks

LPI is much better but also more difficult; Linux+, like all Comptia certs, covers only the basics

I was doing the BS program for TCOM at DeVry here in jersey. I left the school because I thought it was a waste of money ~$5000 a semester and always going up at least $200 a semester. I wasnt learning anything, and the whole administration board was so corrupted that it wasnt even funny.

Most colleges and universities aren't much different then what you experienced. I've had first hand experience from college myself. There was this teacher that was so bad, the students signed a petition to the dean and president to have her removed. We had students from every semester sign it. She couldn't teach ANYTHING.

Basically what happened was all the students who signed the petition were threatened with permanent expulsion with no refund if they didn't get their names off the petition.

Now that's corrupted.

What you actually learn from any higher education really depends on you, not the environment, but the degree you get will definately help you get a good job whether you learn or not.

My son also was accepted by the FBI as an IT applicant, and he made it through part 2 of the screening but decided that it really wasn't for him and pulled out at the last minute..

Botton line -as with many companies these days, the FBI will no even look at you if you do not have at least a bachelor's degree...

I guess it's not really what you know or what you learned, but whether or not you go along with the PROGRAM and pay for that degree.

Education -the last bastion of legal descrimination
