Systems why so slow with Barton XP2500+ ?

Just put together a system:

AMD Athlon XP 2500+ (1.83GHz) OEM Barton Core 333MHz

Gigabyte GA-7VT600L KT600 400MHz Motherboard ATX, LAN

Kingston Valueram 256MB DDR333 PC2700 Memory

MSI FX 5200 128MB Video Card w/ DVI, TV Out

Maxtor 20GB ATA/66 5200RPM (used from old system)

Sound Blaster Live (used from old system)

10/100 Nic

3DMark 2K1 - 6600

Got close to 7000 overclocking CPU to 2.16 ghz 392 FSB.

Still a horrible score for the system?

Yep, that card isn't too great...even the Overclockers' score was under 8000 with 3dmark 2001.

Greetings,
Don't worry about your CPU. It's your Video card that is the slow bit. Your 3dmark2001 score is about right for your setup. the 5200 is certainly ok for gaming, just expect to have to turn down the graphics a bit. It's also aimed more at DX9 than DX8 and 3dmark2001 is aimed at DX7&8. Its performance compared to DX8 cards (eg GF4 4200) will increase if you benchmark for DX9 (it might not be better, but it will be closer).
I just realised ... you're the guy who got rid of his 9700 pro aren't you ... the 5200 is going to be a little slower than that one!
Cheers,
Elad.

I sold my 9700 Pro out of my system. You are correct Eladijaz

This system here is for my brother. But after talking with him and convincing him to purchase these parts (not the video card) I was un-impressed. I figured the CPU would help out with the score, but it didn't.

Incorrect:

The 5200 may TECHNICALLY be aimed at DX9, but is so slow in this API that you'll always be better off in DX8. Its a DX9-capable part, but it can't really run it at any playable speed. 3DMark 2001 is still a fine card performance measurement, given this.

how is the cpu gonna help a card that is already at its limit? the 5200 cannot go any higher. there is nothing the cpu can do to push the videocard anymore - this is it - the MAX.

think about it, the bottleneck here is the videocard, not the cpu. the videocard is slow as mollasses... actually maybe even slower.

Just a question?

Will the ata 66 affects the score in 3dmark?

Probably not by a great amount. 3D Mark is more about graphics/system/memory benchmarking. Remember, 66 ain't too much slower than 100 for real world purposes.
