DHCP WinXP not accepting IP
I'm having problems with a WinXPyuck laptop connecting to an alpha DHCP server. It is a recurrent problem, but does not always happen.
Laptop issues a DHCPDISCOVER, server replies with a DHCPOFFER with an IP address
Instead of issuing a DHCPREQUEST, laptop issues another DHCPDISCOVER 5 seconds later. server reoffers the same IP address. Carries on until laptop times out and complains of failure.
Generally the DHCP server issues 7 day tickets. The offered IP address is in the local DNS as the resolution for the domain name of the laptop ('host IP' finds the domain name), but is not pingable (obviously).
This often happens, but does not always.
Any ideas why this aint working? I haven't had this problem before about two months ago, and generally keep the XP laptop fully OS updated.
I have found evidence in the server logs of a 'no free leases' response on occassion (though I haven't a clue why as we have very few connections. the sysadmins might have set the number of licences rather low). However that is not the response I am getting.
