Outdoors Not PC related, but techie for sure

I just bought a dvd recorder for my home tv-an RCA unit that I can plug the audio/vidoe cables into and record vhs to dvd- What the seller didn't say was that I couldn't copy copywrited material- Well duh! I stood right there and said that I had every Disney movie known to man on vhs and wanted to put them on DVD- saleperson said"this'll do it"! well this recorder/player was $600 after all was said and done- is there ANY way to circumvent the vhs copywrite switch (I kow there's one in there somewhere) I don't want to sell them- I just want to get with the times and consolidate the space that all these movies take up- Some are no longer available and I would really like to put them on DVD - any suggestions? Thanks!

A friend told me about this trick but I don't know if it's true. Cut a strip of paper and tape it to the back of the cassette where the label is. Let me know if it did work.

Welcome to Tech imo. A friend of mine got around the copyright thing with an older computer DVD burner. The "switch" is a signal recorded on the tape. The newer video equipment reads the signal and blocks recording. This is what a Vhs repair guy told me.

All that will do is allow him to copy over his VHS tape. That's the opposite of what he wants.

I'm not talking about just cover that hole. My friend claimed he copied tapes with that method. Then again that was old and they may have a new copy protected scheme.

Thanks for the suggestions folks- I guess my only recourse is to just buy the dang movies, except most of them are not available any more. My husband swears that there has GOT to be a way to get around it (LOL, he doesn't even know how to turn a computer on!) I think I'll just take the dvd recorder/player back and buy movies with the $600 refund.I just wanted to get with the times and put 'em all on dvd. NO rewinding!!! ah well, just another one of those little life lessons!
