Systems cmos checksum error and no keyboard

Hi all. This may have been discussed before, but I have a cmos checksum error loaded default on my gigabyte GA7DX+ mobo, it has a 1.3 Ghz duron chip and voodoo g card and one stick of 125ddr pc1200 no floppy just a cd rom and a 4 gig hd.
Every time I boot it up it checks primary master etc then cmos checksom error.
I have tried taking out waiting and putting the battery back in, I have tried changing the motherboard and mouse around, and to no avail. Although the keyboard lights come on, it just will not allow me to press f1 or del
I have spent the whole day searching google etc and am getting to the end of my tether as it is impossible to get into cmos.
Thats it folks, any help would be much appreciated

Yours Thankfully
Ploddy

Every time I have had this happen a clear of the CMOS did the job, just use the jumpers and clear it out, let it sit a few minutes and then power up.

What do you mean you tried changing your motherboard around? Did you swap it out with another motherboard? And did you just take out your battery and then put it back in, or did you replace it with a new battery?

It was a complete new build with a new battery
Except the hard drive, it has linux red hat 8.0 though it wont get that far!
Being a relative newbie to this where are the jumpers to be found?

Look in your motherboard manual, it will have it listed where it is on the board. If you cant find it i will look it up online

Quite often, a complete restart will reveal where the problem is. Try removing everything (even a possible removal of the motherboard). Only have a video card, ram, cpu and fan and power supply attached..no keyboard, mouse etc. Turn it on by momentarily shorting the two pins where the case switch wires plug in...see if it will boot further and will allow you into the BIOS setup. A checksum error is pretty common on new setups until the user goes into the BIOS and sets the data up..including setting the motherboard to 133 Mhz FSB.

If this allows you to boot up, then add one item at a time back to see what is failing.

If this didn't help, remove the motherboard from the case, place it on some soft surface (a soft cover book will do) and do as above again..if it still fails to let you into CMOS, you have a defective motherboard probably.

PS, if you are in the US..be sure the power switch on the back of the power supply is set to 115 volts.. if you are in Europe, it should be set to 220 volts.
