How often should you update....

Your certifications? I know their making new tests for these different certs once a year it seems. Do you guys think it's necessary to take the new tests?

its up to you to stay on top of things

once your certed A+, your always A+

the only update would be to go for the next one up.

network+
server+
ect.

to as far as you want to go depending on what you want to do.
and what if any requirements the employment wants to see

You don't need to update/upgrade any of the CompTIA certs.
