Well, after almost 2 years being overclocked.. My trusty Athlon Thunderbird passed on last night...

Autopsy reports showed that dust was the apparant cause of death. Dust particles had built up between the fan and the heatsink.

After a couple rounds of video editing causing heavy CPU usage and therfore excessive heat played a major factor in its demise.

Kind of sad today, marking the end of an era.....

RIP buddy...

2 years of being overclocked? i would think you got some good usage out of that cpu.

Originally, I had a scotch brite pad at my rear intake to reduce the dust problem.... but it needed more cooling, so I just left the side cover off the case... therefore letting in all the dust..
Both fans on the heatsink had made a wall of dust....

...and it only took a few months.. I guess the dust from the carpet in a new house is a little worse...

Now time for the upgrade search...

The t-birds were the good 'ol cpus weren't they? My friend had his 1.4 t-bird for about three years til I sold him my xp1700 palo. I told him it's a drop in no need to change jumpers or anything. The palo actually ran cooler than the t-bird. He claims that it doesn't seem any faster.
