can we use the same monitor (not simultaneously) on 2 non-networked computers?
Hi
I added a post to an old thread (in networking/internet forum) that I thought was related to my question, but I decided now that it really isn't that related, and I couldn't find my particular problem by using the search, so I'm starting a new thread - hope that's OK.
My roommate and I both have our own computer. But he has a better monitor (way better! it's 22 inches! wow-I'm still impressed obviously)
So I would like for us both to be able to use our own computer with that one monitor.
Also, the bigger monitor is in a better room of the house, so that's another reason.
We each have our own keyboard and mouse too, and we could share those or not- wouldn't matter. I figured if we could use the same monitor, we would use the same keyboard and mouse too, but either way would be fine.
There's plenty of room under the desk where the monitor sits for both of our processors.
His computer is WinME and mine is Win98. I'm using IE6; his still has IE5 but getting ready to upgrade to IE6 on his too, if that makes any difference.
The monitor should be compatible with both our computers.
Since I'd like for each of us to be able to be on our own computer on the bigger monitor, we'd never be on the computer at the same time. All we ever use the computer for is Internet, and we only have one phoneline anyway.
And they are NOT networked (which is why I decided that other thread wasn't really related after all).
So can I just set my processor under the desk next to his, under the big monitor, without having to get any special equipment or cables or anything else at all? And just plug the monitor into whichever computer we're using at the moment?
That sound like a bit of a hassle, but worth it to be able to share the monitor.
WIll there be a problem with Windows re-detecting new hardware every time we switch or some other problem like that?
Or any problem at all?
Thanks for any help!
Rebecca
