4099MB HD shows up as 503MB!

Hi,

I received an old AcerNote Ligt 350 PCX Laptop (pentium1 120MHz) On the hd it says its a Samsung 4099Mb...but after I installed windows it showed up as 503MB. When I was installing windows, I had to format it first because (as i knew it was previously empty), it gave me an error that it was a compressed drive or something. I reformated, and then I installed win95 after with no problem.

What should I do?
