Front usb ports not working!

I just built a new pc, and i've found that the front usb ports aren't working. The mobo I have is an abit nf7-s, and it came with an extra usb/fireware expansion card which also connects to the motherboard like the ports on the front of the case. It works but I've noticed it seems stop working sometimes (usb keyboard stopped responding when hooked to it). I guess there is a problem with the usb pins on the motherboard. The usb on the back of the motherboard work fine. Any ideas what's wrong?

Could be the connectors on the pins are not making good contact..recheck all connections. It could also be a flaky keboard USB cable or connector..have you tried another USB device in the front ports?..about the only way to find the root of this type of problem is by trial and error. If you have more than one front port, and you also have other USB devices you can test with, try plugging something else into the port that has failed, see if it works. You need to determine if your problem is inside the case, or outside.

i've tried my mouse, flash drive, digital camera, and nothing is working in the ports. i've tried removing and reconnecting the connector for the front usb (and restarting) but no change.

Sometimes the "pinouts" are different for different motherboards and case connectors. Have you looked in the mobo book? Or the web faq?

What does the manual say about it? Does it mention any jumpers or bios settings for it?

I had my front USB ports go out on me once, turned out it was because my PS was too small.

uh i have a 450w ps
i checked the mobo manual and theres no option to enable or disable the usb (just change from 1.1 to 2.0+1.1) and i also went into the bios and searched for it. i know the connector's on right because there is a spot with no hole on the connector which corresponds to a spot where there is no pin on the mobo

Have you tried it both ways?? could it be you are trying it at 2.0 but the case can only handle 1.1?

well i installed the nforce drivers. thing is i couldn't install the usb 2.0 driver. it says to get sp1 (which came with my xp pro) then open Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller in device manager but that is not listed. only things there are standard enhanced pci to usb host controller, standard openhcd usb host controller (2 of this), usb composite device, and usb root hub (3 of this)
