I tried the AOpen specific drivers and no-go. (Instead of a WPE, I get nothin- windoze boot logo just hangs and I have to reboot.) I did however, find a somewhat clunky workaround last night that seems to work. It also confirms that there's nothing wrong with the hardware or drivers.
What I came up with was to disable the device in the device manager (only the WDM Universal driver- the other 3 devices don't cause any problem). I can boot and do whatever I want. When I want to capture video, go into DM and click 'Enable Device'. I can then capture perfectly (without rebooting), but MUST remember to disable the WDM universal capture device again before I shut down. If I don't, I'll need to boot to safe mode and disable it there before being able to get back into standard windoze.
This really is a screwy problem. I don't think it's a driver issue, as the capture works perfectly. I don't think it's a hardware issue, same reason. For some reason, windoze doesn't like having the device active at boot time, but doesn't mind starting it later.
Robert- I don't have your e-mail addy here (work), but will send you a message when I get home tonight.
