recording simple audio through mic

I have a microphone plugged into my SBLive MP3+ card and I can hear that it's working. Outputs right through my speakers ok.

What's the easiest way to record the sounds it hears onto the computer ? Even better - record/encode as .mp3 ...

What programs do I use ?

I tried XP's sound recorder and it doesn't seem to be recording my test voices at all... something I'm missing ?

It sounds like you have the recording input set to something other than the microphone.

Look for a program called All Sound Recorder. It's sort of trippy to get working at first, but it will record straight from your microphone (after you choose it as the source) to MP3, assuming you have an MP3 codec installed that's capable of encoding. I used to record all my song ideas with it. Works well enough for that.

I went into Sound and Audio Properties and under Sound Recording, there's no choice except default: SB Live! Audio [FF80]. Is that right or should it be microphone somehow ?
