Anti Macintosh

I cannot believe some of the anti mac comments made in some of the posts recently. I am referring to the lsass.exe system error thread on the last page. I realize that some people just dont like them but dang!!! How long has the lsass.exe problem been going on??? This problem was discovered like over 2 years ago! I havent run into any problem like that on my G4 powerbook. I personally prefer my UNIX based OS X v.10.3 I too got hit with the lsass error and my only salvation was to install windows in another folder so that I could recover my data and reformat the drive. You dont hear of problems like that with Macs. In the 4+ years that I have been buiding and fixing PC's, I have never had a PC that didnt go without problems. Question to all, whats the problems with Macs??? Is it that you cant upgrade them?? Or is it that you cant afford to buy one. I mean, man, using a $2,000 - $3,000 machine for a doorstop?? Thats insane! I own a PC still because in my opinion it is good to have both, but I like the feel of a truely strong UNIX machine. Thanks for listening to my rant. Comment if you like, I will reply if necessary.

Cost and resistance to change is probably the biggest deal---

Listen up. All personal preferance. I use PC because that's what I grew up on. I know the PC. I personally dont like macs becaues I cant whiz through anything on them and I cant game on them.
There's no reason for attacking macs.

Gaming, price, and my personal hatred not of Apple, but of Apple's hype--the G5 launch being only one of the latest and greatest examples.

Yes, I know Apple "explained" it, and I know people bought their explanation (just as the same people have bought EVERY Apple "explanation"). Bottom line? I make my living benchmarking systems and writing about them, and I DON'T buy it.

I don't like Apple because they aren't content with telling the truth. The G5 WAS a great system, it WAS a huge step from the G4, it WAS a competitive product, it DID offer all sorts of new features. There were a thousand great things to say about it, but Apple had to go farther and claim things it can't back up.

Well now PCWorld (and MacWorld in collaberation) have proven that the G5 cant' hold a candle to the FX-51 in most tests, but has that stopped Apple? Not a bit.

I'm not going to be quick to buy from a company that flat-out lies to me.

These are the fact why I don't have Macintosh computers: Price, Unknowness, Gaming, etc. Don't take me wrong though, I think they are excellent from what I have seen and experienced. They are one of the most stable machines I have seen. I have never gotten an error in a Macintosh. But currently I don't have the bucks. And the unknowness (or lets say the fear of not knowning what I bought) makes me stay away from them. But they are extremely powerful machines, and excellent products.

I think it's amusing that people think you can't game on a Mac. Pretty much every popular title I've ever seen has been released for Mac. The same goes for software. Anything popular is there. It's more like happy ignorance (no offense intended) to keep thinking that Mac is lagging behind in the software dept. My roommate has a G4 800 and there isn't anything I use on Windows he hasn't got for the Mac. Go to the Mac store's software site. You might be surprised.

Of course I don't even own or use a Mac, so...

People often hate what they are not accustomed to or what they fail to readily understand. The majority of the market is PC-concentric, thus the mention of "Apple" or "Mac" tends to spur great controversy.

I can say the same for Windows versus Linux around here. People are often too polarized into their own opinions due to their personal experiences regarding technology.

For example, I could poll the memberbase concerning Compaq desktops. Greater than 85% would offer negative comments, yet Compaq still sells thousands of desktop systems to plenty of satisified consumers and professionals each year.

The same can be said for Apple. People will continue to complain about the Mac, and more specifically, the ackward advertising campaign for the G5. However, Apple's G5 hype was not any worse than Intel's Penium 4 hype or AMD's K8 hype.

What bothers me is that the people that commonly disregard the G5 as being a competitive solution are often the same people that would have no problem dropping thousands of dollars for an Opteron system that also failed to deliver upon the initial PR hype generated by AMD's marketing division for the past four years.

To each their own....

The mac might have a few popular titles for gaming, but many people don't like just the most popular games. Where is Freespace 2? The Moon Project? And Total Annihilation Gold for Macintosh does not compare to what is available for PC. Basically TA Gold for Mac can only play multiplayer again another TA Gold on Mac. Upgrading of course is also a big part of it.

i have been helping the Graphics Artists at my work adjust to a new Mac G4 with OSX 10.2 that i had setup for her recently (G5s had just come out and were too much for what she needed). This was my first experience with a Mac and i do like OS X. But it took a while to get the G4 stable. Part of the problem was the software she is using.

But, i my experience, i dont see any advantage a Mac running OS X has over a PC running windows XP. Windows XP has been very stable for me and i am too use to the way windows works. I have gotten use to the G4 but i just dont want to know too much because, like i said, i dont see any advantage. OSX has some nice features windows doesnt, but not enough.

But you talk about people here Mac Bashing, it has taken me over a year to de-program our Mac user (was on G3 OS 9 before). I could not believe all the stuff she was told by other Mac users who are anti windows in a big way.
