Kids DVD single or dual format?

OK, I’m buying a DVD burner TODAY, so I’ll be visiting a retail store.. hate to, but I want it NOW!

I’d like some input please; one store has a dual format DVD burner, a Pioneer A-06 for around $159, while another has a single format (+) it’s a Universal BUSlink for $99.

If I only want to create DVD’s for my home DVD player and it does DVD +RW, do I really need a dual format burner? I’m thinking NO, but…….

I don’t know much about BUSlink, have never owned any of their products, should I just spend the extra bucks to get a Pioneer?

Or are these both poor choices and I should give up my quest for a DVD burner TODAY and order something better? cheaper? faster? Like what?

I know the 'got to have it today' bug all to well.
Personally, I would order online and save some money not only on the burner but tax as well, not to mention the time spent driving.
As far as the daul format issue, prices are cheap enough on-line that you can pick one up for $110.99 shipped / no tax (unless you live in NJ or CA)

Newegg has this unit which I picked up last week for $106.99 shipped.
This is a nice daul format burner and can't be beat for the money.

Here's the link to the burner;

There are links to 3 reviews , all positive.

WB

BTW, Today's price is $110.99 shipped

Go with dual format. DVD-R has been rated by a few places as the most compatiable. With DVD+RW in the lead for the re-writeables. I love my Pioneere A06

Well, call me the "taker backer!" I first tried the BUSlink DVD +RW.. it worked, but was very slow per Nero spd test. So I took it back!!

Tried the Pioneer DVD +/- RW... was more $... but was oh so nice. did a DVD copy with DVD Shrink in DVD +R... turned out beautiful, ran on my home DVD perfect... but, because I'm trying to stuff it into a Sony case the buttons and basil thing wouldn't work... took it back!

Tried the Digital Research, but after the Pioneer .. it just wasn't as good! Took it back!

So tomorrow I will purchase a new case adn then I can re-purchase the Pioneer dual format.. it cost a little more than the rest, but it is well worth the extra$.

Thx for your input... it helped a lot.

Yeah I forgot to say that in Speed tests Maximum PC did the Pioneer came out on top for speed. I know they were looking at the Sony DRU Dual Format in the tests.

Pioneer was the fastest (and quietest) of 'em that I tried... I copied a CD (music) also, I think the write speed was supposed to be 24x, but Roxio for some reson wouldn't let me adjust beyond 16x, but nevertheless it copied at 17x. That's unlike the BusLink, it said 40x but actually copied at 13x.

.. did not try the Sony, 'cause when I looked at the Sony Vaio Computers (RS420), Sony used the same Pioneer that I tried for their DVD RW. so if Pioneer is good enough for Sony, it's good enough for me. :0

ordered case and burner this a.m..... I hate waiting, but the case locally is 119.97 + tax, the Pioneer $179.95 + tax.... on the web, $80 and $168 respectively. The Pioneer gets shipped for free so the saving on the burner is a little better than it appears.

wait, wait, wait, yikes!
