Setting up a quake3 server.
my school is hosting a lan party the 15th of November. I am going to take my laptop and use it to run a Quake3 and Battlefield1942 server. I know how to setup, manage, and run a bf1942 server, but have no experience with Quake3.
First of all, where do I get the server program? I can't find a web site to download it from. Also, what version should I get? What version of quake3 do most people run? Also, would I have to update my game as well as the server?
Also does anyone know how to setup the server to where its a hook and rail server only?
Thanks,
-Biz

What kind of server do you want? Freezetag, CTF, TDM, FFA, Rail freeze, Rail TDM, etc? Is there a way everyone at the school (that will attend the LAN) are communicating? I suggest asking.
It'd be easier to come up with ideas after that.
What version? It depends what you want to run. Personally, I play 1.11/1.16. Why? Because everyone I know uses that. |

I usually play on the [D]ynasty:[D]ienasty H&R server. Its a FFA rail and hook server. I want to setup a server just like it. I don't know what version of quake3 I have, its just the game, no patches installed or anything, just what came on the cd. But the Dynasty server above is using the 1.16v server. Will anyone be able to connect tot he server who isn't running 1.16?
Communicatiing, you mean what program they will use to talk to eachother? Well sicne there are going to be several different games, i think they will have a server dedicated to just run a program like teamspeak or ventriala(SP?) But i am not 100% sure about this, i will ask when the host of the party gets back from vacation.

I was talking about right now. You could possibly ask around to see what everyone wants to play!
Ohh I haven't been on the [D]ynasty server in a while. Ever play on the FAKE server?
The [D]ynasty server is fast hook and rail right? I can ask my buddies in the FAKE clan for some help, see if they can post the admin/server settings.

Thanks, that'll really help me if you could find those settings.
I havn't been on a fake server in a while, i'll go check them out again. I have played many fake members int eh dynasty server, and have beaten many of them.
Now i hate playing Dynasty members, as a couple of them like to use aimbots(I've watched them in spectate mode)

Ahh, No FAKErs use a bot though. Although, I have some very serious doubts on ethics. Most of the original FAKE members I played with have now vanished. (Myself included).
I'll be sure to make a thread and see what happens... |

I posted it in the Shoutbox over at FAKE
I'll try and search for replies. Or you could just post a new one asking. Just mention you're [E]'s friend. |
