I was reading a privious post saying that theysent a kid so IM saying sexual things and they they couldnt track his IP back.

I was wondering, if they log ur IP adress on a site, like on this one when you place a post, can you actally track somebody, like with a complete adress and name, or just a General thing like state, or city.

well they can ask your isp i guess, but i doubt your isp would tell them address and all

Would require a court order to the ISP but in general yes its possible (barring usage of proxy servers of course)

from your IP they can tell what color shoes your girlfriend wears!

I think they can find the city and isp very easily.

With dialup you usually get a different IP everytime u dial in but it is in a certain range etc..and if they wanted to I am sure your isp could track it down.

With cable isp they can tell the date of the bread in your fridge.
