heatsink on the back of the GPU?

I have noticed that after gaming or benchmarking, the back of the GPU gets hot on my vid card.

Im planning to put two 1U copper heatsinks on my vid card, one on the GPU and one on the back of it.

Is putting a heatsink on there is safe?

As long as it's not contacting any metal pins on the back of the card, I can't see any problem with it.

Just make sure that it'd be mounted correctly and like Atomic Rooster said make sure nothing is creating a short, I had that problem when I installed the back side GPU heatsink on my Radeon 9600. There was a short, and drove me crazy, thought I broke the card.
