College education for general repair???

I'm preparing for a career in general, home-based computer repair, and would like to know what college courses I should take, or what other education I need besides a love for all things technical. I'm situated in Newberg, OR, and would rather go to Portland Community College, Willamette University, or something close than take a plane to some other college. Does anyone else here hold a job that deals with home or small business PC repair and have any suggestions/helpful hints or advice on what I should take in regards to higher education? I'm still in high school right now, but I don't want to jump into the fray without a clue on where to go.

Help me out guys!

If you have the intestinal fortitude (and monetary where withal) to start your own business, some good technical school training would help very much..especially in general electronics...knowing electronics allows competent deductions when trouble shooting computers. AC vs DC and how AC hum etc. can cause havoc in any computer is well worth the effort.

A college degree will basically only be a valuable asset if you decide to work in a large computer industry where advancement up thru the rank and file will be to your advantage and interest.

Concur! A college degree won't help you troubleshoot anything. To a certain extent, troubleshooting electronics is no different than troubleshooting a dishwasher or a toaster. There's a lot of common sense and process-of-elimination involved.

Having said that, I agree that a good tech school would be great! Ham radio is also a good hobby and path to learn electronics.
