Talk Good Combo drive?

Building my "1st system"
Would like to add a combo cd-rw / dvd drive.

I would like to be able to write dvd's as well as cd's.
Could anyone please offer some suggestions for good quality drives around $150? Also, can I just walk into BB or CC to purchase rather than waiting for shipping if I purchase online?

btw....specs of my rig.......

-amd 2600xp
-asus A7N8X Deluxe
-wd 80gig 7200
-antec sonata case
-1 gig corsair 3200
-XP Pro

Thanks
bshef

you're building pretty much the same system as i just did
2600 barton (i'd suggest getting the barton if you're not)
abit nf7-s (i thought about getting a7n8x but nf7-s is cheaper)
wd 120gb SE
2 512mb kingston pc3200
xp pro

i would say get separate drives (thats what i did) i got a liteon dvd and a liteon cdrw off ebay for less than $60 total (cant remember how much exactly) course i didn't get a dvd-rw drive which is what you want (i dont know what those are like)
if not seperate drives i'd say get a normal cd drive to go along with your combo

Did you buy "new" stuff on ebay?

CPU AMD|2600/333 ATHLON XP BARTON R
This is how newegg listed my processor! "R" means retail.

Thanks for the reply!

Welcome to the forum!

You are better off buying online because of all the online coupons...there arent that many instore coupons.

Sometimes you CAN specify in store pickup.

Besides, the wait is only like 5-7 days for delivery, lol.

still too much for me i dont need dvd burning anyway

yes they were "new" oem (no box but came with software and audio cable) items off ebay, actually when i got them i found that the seller had bought them from websites (whose invoices were inside the boxes) and had them sent to me! and he PAID MORE THAN HE CHARGED ME!!! the name of the seller was demonsgear and it's site is www.demonsgear.com (which appears to be dead now!)

I just picked up the Optorite daul format burner at Newegg for $106.99 shipped.
Nice burner, good reviews.
Here's the link at newegg;

BTW, Price is up to $110.99 today, it seems to fluctuate on a daily basis.
