Systems help! Boot Loader

Hi,
I m useing winxp and redhat 9. I have to partition in my hard drive. I bought a new hard drive for redhat. Now how can I delete redhat partiton and fix lilo boot loader? My winxp came with my computer from HP but I don't have any winxp cd. I can only use boot disk. Can you please tell me in details how can I do it? I m new in linux. Please help me. Thanks.

Hello,
Well you have two options.
1. use fdisk (i like the linux version much better) to remove the linux partions and then reinstall linux. this would take care of the bootloader and free up the current partition space.

2. add then second hard drive, partion and format it for linux and then copy the linux contents of the old drive to the new one and then edit the bootlaoder.


If IU had a bunch of stuff I did not wish to loose on the linux side i would opt for option 2. I reaize there are not many details here - for option 1 not many are needed, for option 2 be careful, i can help with more details later.

The DOS/Windows FDisk has trouble removing extended Linux partitions (complains about logical drives, then says none exist). Use the one on the RH CD.
Then run fdisk /mbr from the XP CD recovery console.

Or just boot off a liveCD, mount the partitions and copy the files you want to the windows drive.
