I'm having trouble installing software from CD. I keep getting messages like CRC error, or "File size is not equal to that expected". This happens when installing some applications and, more often, fully legit games. The thing is, this includes games that have installed fully ok in the past before I formatted my drive and reinstalled XP recently.
Sometimes it comes up with the ABORT/IGNORE/RETRY dialogue, and ignoring the messages sometimes works. Other times it makes no odds, and usually comes up with the error on different files. What I mean is it'll come up with an error when I try and install on one occasion, and on another it'll do it okay and come up with the error on a different file. Again, this is not the case with all programs. Puzzling.
I'm running:
XP Home Edition SP1
1Ghz RAM
P4 1.8Ghz processor
GForce FX5200
Onboard AC97 sound.
120 Gb Maxtor HD
ASUS CDRW 52x24x52 (to read the CD)
Have you tried the problem cd's in another machine?
I tried it on a mates, but a burnt CD he did for me came up with CRC errors when I just copied some files over to my hard drive.
Oh, I replaced the CDRW with the Asus one last night and still got the problem, and I haven't had chance to test it out on my new DVD drive.
