In my opinion If you already have Windows 2000 I wouldn't go to XP unless you are having issues with 2000. I have XP and 2000 but use 2000 for games.

i'm having no problems with win2k, in fact, i love it. it has the necessary security functions that i need. i read in pcworld that win2k is actually a 16bit os with 32bit extensions, doesn't that effect the gaming aspect of it? i know the first true 32bit os is xp, that's why i assumed that xp would be a better gaming os. i'm running an amd xp 1800+ with 512mb pc133 ram with an Nvidia geforce2 mx400 64mb 4x videocard, maybe that's why games aren't so good on my system. i'm upgrading my mobo to a gigabyte ga-7vax with 512mb samsung ddr pc3200 (just bought actually!) and am looking to get a new video card, (that's a whole 'nother post!). tell me what you guys think about the os that i should get!

ha iseeu your pc is a bit better than mine,

P4 2.2 GHz
256 MB RAM
Geforce 2 MX400

win2k is best i had winxp but that crashed and never worked right again =) =)
BTW linux is good for UT2K3 i found it a bit better than in windows, but quake and JKJA works better in windows, the emulators are still a bit slow =)

win2k best, just stay there!

Spend the money on a better vid card at least to a GF4 TI instead of going to XP IMO.

Well, if you don't have problems with Windows 2000 Professional than stay with it. Its an excellent operating system, and its not worth to spend the bucks on Windows XP when you are already happy with an operating system and Windows XP is very similar too. Agreed, go for a better video card. You will spend the money on something more useful and well spent. Although I think that the best gaming operating system is IMO Windows 98. Why? because its light, because its easilly managed, and most games work well with it. But of course the stability of it is horrible and Fat32 is already outdated. I guess it depends on your own opinions and thoughts.

Ditto
Stay away from Windows ME. If you really want a windows from the 9x series because of gaming or you want Fat 32 get Windows 98.

i found ME to perform better than 98 in games and benchmarks. That said, I'd go with 98 as you still get access to command.com at startup without replacing the startup files.
If you have 2k, stay with it. XP does offer better performance, but I wouldn't bother spending the money. Don't go with 9x though, in any directx games, 2k does it better.
Get a GF4Ti4600 or something instead.
PS: Sorry, missed your post.
