Athlon being shown as Duron

My friend took his comp to Fry's to have it serviced because it would not POST. It was an Athlon 2400+, Abit KV7 mobo. When he got it back, the screen would show it as an "AMD Duron 2400+"

Did Fry's replace his processor? I was under the impression that Durons did not go by PR ratings. If they did replace his processor, what would you suggest he do to get his Athlon?

Either way, I'd go back and tell them they better put a XP2400+ back in there. How much did they charge for the repair? Probably too much and overpriced the Duron.

Sounds like a BIOS problem. Fastest Duron I know of is much slower than 2400.

Okay, I updated his BIOS. It's showing it as normal now. Thanks, everyone.

Had to just be a bios prob all along. Id hate to think what fry's charges...at least if they are anything like compusa,lol.

I must say that would be cool if my Bios said I had a Duron 2600 but my PC still ran as an XP2600
