Which Laptop?

I'm looking for a well built, fast, Centrino processor laptop for travel . I've been searching CNet.com and the majority of the Hp's, Toshiba's, Dell's, Compaq's, and other well-known brands have not so good consumer ratings with complaints about build quality and tech support. As a result, I've looked into getting one from Velocity Micro, which appears take build quality very seriously, and appears to have good support. Any experience with this company? Any other laptop suggestions?

Also, is there a significant difference in speed of a 1.6 GHz Centrino processor and a 1.7 GHz, or is the difference negligible?

Thanks for your help!

I recommend for notebooks to go for these brands: Toshiba and IBM. I think they make the best notebooks available today in the market considering performance and quality. Their prices vary, but they aren't very cheap so you will have to spend some bucks on them. I would say they are worth the money spent on them.

Do you really notice a speed difference between a p4 2.4Ghz and a p4 2.6Ghz, if so is the premium you're paying for the 1.7Ghz worth that difference?

Personally I'd go with the 1.6Ghz P-M since the 1.7Ghz is the fastest (Therefore you're paying a premium for it). With this money saved you can up your ram, hd, or screen rez. Just my 2¢.

Also I agree with Toshiba, they make quality products albeit a tad more expensive. My housemate ordered the Toshiba r100 1.0Ghz centrino, I can't wait to play with it
