What do you think? Good news . . . bad news for SuSe users?

I think Novell is kind of desperate (not to offend SuSE though)

If I remember right SuSE was struggling for awhile to..
Novell has recently made several statements of their support for Linx.
They could be buying the intelliegence of SuSE to help them get their foot in the door in that market.

IMO its a good thing, Novell may not be quite the heavy hitter they used to be but they can bring more products into Linux and that is always a good thing

I'm in agreement with Vass here.

There will almost definitely be some adjustment pains at SUSE but overall it'll be a good move for the company.

You know that whole groupware thing that SUSE developed (to be similar to exchange server)? I wonder if when novell takes over if MS will have a good competitor for that sort of thing.

Novell will pay $210 million in cash to complete the acquisition.

So is this good for SuSe or not? Perhaps it's time to buy some Novell stock?

I think SuSE 9 is perhaps the best out of box Linux distro yet (still waiting for my copy of Drake 9.2 for comparrson), the SuSE people are doing a splendid job and acceptance of their enterprize Linux products is beginning to take off -whether the aqusition is going to be good for SuSE or not remains to be seen. It's definately going to be good for Novell or they wouldn't be forking over the $210 million.

What this means for SuSE users, however, may be another story; I can't see this being good for desktop users of SuSE Linux.

I can imagine a core group at SuSE will be retiring comfortably now -leaving what remains of the company with Novell, a company not all that far from the now infamous SCO...
