AMD 3200+ vs Pentium 4 3.2 800 FSB
Could you tell me what are the main differences to go by either one: AMD Athlon xp 3200+ or Pentium 4 3.2.
It is hard to decide which one is better.

i have the 3200+ and i say - you cant mess with the 3.2C.
that thing utilizes dual channel much better, does way better with mp3 encoding/decoding, sse2 optimized programs - anything that requires raw mhz. even in games - the 3200+ does not compete well against the 3.2C.
overall, the 3.2C wins. however, we are talking upper-end prices here... so i would suggest the a64 instead.

I've benched systems against eachother, one havinf the XP3200 and the other the 3.2C.
for some reason, the XP still does better in 3DMark then the 3.2C

That is because 3dmark is designed to make use of AMD's architecture. Im a big AMD fan, but the p4 is better.

it is also designed to make use of the P4 architecture, so...
In most things the 3.2C is better indeed.
I got an XP3000/400 today, and I swear to all that is AMD, I will beat the 3.2C, but not in memory bench, that is impossible

I've seen the Pentium 4 getting much better scores in benchmarks that the AMD Athlon XP. And I prefer the Intel processors with the 800 FSB than the most powerful AMD's. The AMD's in my experience get hotter easier and need a better cooling system. I think AMD is more for budget people that don't need to spend a lot of money on a processors

Have you ever ran a 3.2C?? They heat up worse then the XP3200.
It's that they have that heatspreader, and their thermal protection stuff, else AMD would be better regarding cooling and heating.

I benched my P4 2.4A against my friends 2800+ and it was pretty much a tie on every thing exept 3D Mark.
The 3200+ is almost as fast as a P4 2.8C from what I have seen. But you cant overclock a processor and then put it up against a default clocked CPU.

I agree with whoever recommended the Athlon 64 3200+ vs the AthlonXP 3200+. The 64-bit chip is both cooler and often faster than the XP, often by as much as 15-20%.
Lots of reviews on this, but you can check my own here if you like: http://www.sudhian.com/showdocs.cfm?aid=434
Keep in mind though, P4 3.2C is just as hot as 3200+ XP--64-bit is cooler than both.
