Are TV Tuner Cards Any Good?

I have devoted a bedroom in my house to computer stuff. I spend alot of time in this room. I would like to have telivision in this room. Would I be better off with a tv tuner card or an inexpenceve telivision? My family has cristened the room, "Uncle Bob's Playpen"

I bought a Hauppage WinTV-Go on eBay about 8 months ago for around $20 and love it. My "computer room" is also a devoted bedroom to computer stuff and rather than have another appliance plugged in, my tuner card works perfect. I have even used it to capture analog video from my camcorder. I can't imagine having another computer without one. My thoughts are buy whatever is cheaper, but you won't be dissatisfied with a tuner card IMHO.

WOW, where to begin.....

College student here renting an appartment off campus with limited space. My bed room is 9x13ft and have a bed, desk, and lots and lots of computers. I simply dont have room for a tv so I got a tv tunner. like captainjrl said, I dont know how I could live without it. I also have a hauppage win-tv model and it works great in linux. The best part is, if I have an early class but still want to watch family guy and futurama, I can simply set up my computer to record the show while im sleeping so I can watch it the next day. Think of the days before you had a scroll wheel on your mouse. Then think about having to use that mouse now. Thats how i feel when i use a computer without a tv tuner card

I got a ATI Tv Wonder VE for $40. It's not stereo sound but is really good nonetheless. Some people dont like this card, but I haven't had trouble with it so far, and I've had it for 2 years now. Picture qualities sucked at first, but I found that the house wasn't getting good cable reception. Called cable company over, the increased the frequency, now the picture on my card is very very good.

BTW, no matter what card you're getting, I recommend you use DScaler. It's a very small, very good program for watching TV.

I've had a Hauppauge Win-tvgo for a couple years now. Love it. Love it. Love it. Brand new it cost me $39. One of the best buys I've ever made. I got $39 worth of entertaiment out of it within the first week!
