monitor???

I have a monitor that is pitch black when I first turn it on. Is it broken????? I just dont want to spend $$$ if I really dont have to. I had the monitor for about 5yrs so maybe it is time to get a new one.

Have you tried another monitor? Borrow one for a test.

Cheers!

Well, all you can really do is look and see if the
brightness or contrast is turned all the way down.

Did it just start doing that or did you just get the monitor or what??

Actually Beemer, it was a double post from last nite, lol. I just pasted my answer from the other post to this post...in the other post it didnt say anything about the 5 years part, lol.

If it just all of a sudden died...and you didnt do anything to the comp first, like change the video card or anything...then it might just be dead.

You probably have to get another monitor and hook it up to your system and see whats up. If you have a friend with an lcd they are easy to transport, lol.

Or if you have a laptop or can borrow one, you can hook the bad monitor to the laptop and see if the monitor comes on then...if it does come on then something would seem to be wrong with your computer.

Does the bad monitor smell funny around the back of it..like something might have burned up??

Yea I had already sniffed around......lol But I didnt smell anything burnt. Theres a computer fair up here onthe 9th so Im gonna pick up a monitor then. I found a few cheap ones online for $55 but then they charged 33.50 to ship it so I figured I could save more $$$ just going to the fair
