Morrowind choppy on some parts

I upgraded my system to a 2.4GHz P4, 512 MB DDR pc 2700 and 128 MB PNY Geforce FX 5200. I still notice that the game Morrowind chops on parts when it is not even loading. Sometimes it hangs for about 5-7 seconds and then finally goes on as normal. I checked around the forums and updated all the latest drivers for my vid card, and sound card Sound blaster live, as well as direct X. I also changed the options for the sound as I saw in another thread to switch to software accelerated as oppose to hardware. It still seems like it is doing about the same thing. Is this just the game or is there something else that I am missing? Either way I doubt I am going to quit playing it, just wouldn't mind having it a little smoother then it already is.

I have the same issue
AMD 2500+ with a GF4 Ti4200
The game isn't designed very well unfortunatley.
I've found if I walk a lot its not AS bad .. but well I'd like to still be young when I get to the destination

It crashes a lot, and it IS sluggish fairly often
It was like that on my old hardware (PIII-650) and even on the new
So not sure how much you can do
What's really irritating is even after you put in the exp packs it doesn't fair any better

Ok cool, just wanted my misery to be confirmed. Love the game to hell though, but just unusual that such a game with high graphics acts about the same on my 800 mhz low end 64 MB vid card system as it does on this one. Oh well it is still a cool game.

Much agreed!! Loved the game!

If you haven't touched the exp packs, I didn't care for tribunal much.. got bored of it. Loved bloodmoon though!

Hey guys, I had the same problems on a Ti4200/PIV1.7, upgraded to a 2.6C, FX5900/256Mb and now Morrowind is smooooth as silk running at highest resolution and all effects on! I downloaded a plugin that did make it stutter the other day tho - so it just seems to be one of those games that you need to just keep on throwing power at. But great game nonetheless; love being a werewolf!

Im sorta late posting this but you guys might try morrowind fps optimizer...... keeps the fps at a nearly constant level by dynamically adjusting the distance the fog is from you..... should prevent those choppy moments
