Real Life Spam Mail Opt-Out

Since I have been combating spam online, and winning, I thought I would give my snail-mail box a go.

This info is for Canadian residence but if you reside in the States or other countries you may be able to find similar help through your Post Office.

Opting Out Of Addressed Ad Mail:

Consumers register to have their names removed from marketing lists held by members of the Canadian Marketing Association.

http://www.the-cma.org/consumer/dono...nc_service.cfm
Click on the Register button at the bottom.

Opting Out Of Unaddressed Mail:

Place a sticker, (Easy to remove one) on your mail box with legible writing:
Stop Unaddressed Ad Mail
This will be noted by the postal courier and will be registered at his station that you have opted out of the unaddressed ad mail.

To get this info straight from the horses mouth:
Use your phone book to find the General Inquiry # for Canada Post.
Here in BC, and maybe across Canada, it is 1-800-470-5324 option #5 to talk with a rep.

Extra:
There is about to be a big push of Phone Advertising. It has recently started in my area. Some of you might have noticed already the increase of this type of calls. Here is a couple of steps you may want to take early in the program before your # gets handed off all over the country.

If advantageous, un-list your phone # if possible to get it out of the phone books at next printing and off the 411 now.

If you are getting phone calls from automated or otherwise, tellers:
Automated - If a # is given for you to call, use it. When you finally talk with a human, cut them short in their boring monolog and ask if they have a Opt-Out feature or program. They will. Give them any info they request.

A Person - Cut them short in their boring monolog and ask if they have a Opt-Out feature or program. They will. Give them any info they request.

Good Luck

Cheers!

I was wondering when someone would notice this little goody.

I forgot to check for mail in the front door mail box for a few days. I found enough pizza flyers and Chinese Food menus, Savings Coupons stuffed envelope, to literally choke a horse. This isn't a new thing either. It's been going on since I moved in March.

The post office is under contract with some e.g. company that dropped off flyers to be delivered. The post office has to deliver them as they are getting paid to do so, under contract.

As it is my physical mail box, I have the option to opt out of unaddressed mail delivered to my mail box. (Flyers)

As for the "addressed" advertising mail, one company seems to carry the weight of the whole scheme. One call for all! That was an easy one. Hell! It all was easy.

No mail in mail box now other than mail I want.

I like it....

Cheers!

PS: I know this isn’t related to the technical discussion theme but it is related, in similar issue, to spam on the Net.
