AIM and ICS

I set up ICS on my brother's network. All his computers are maintaining their connection, but now his daughter's AIM stopped working. I have the program pointed to the proxy and when you try and log on it says verifying username and password but then comes back with a INterent connection disconnected error message.

Also, when he tries to log on MS's passport to check his hotmail, he enters his username and password and he gets a page cannot be displayed message.

So what do I do to get these working?

Here's some info:

The gateway computer is running Windows XP with the native firewall running. The client computer is running Win ME. There is no router, just modem, gateway, switch, & client.

As always...thanks.

you needs to use socks1 in to bypass the gateway. meaning, the gateway pc needs to be running a socks server and then the winme machine can connect through it. what proxy are you using? let me see if i can find the socks prog. i used a while back...

Well, I am not running an actual proxy program. I am running straight ICS through WinXP. AIM just asked for the proxy info. Sorry, it's a little early in the morning.

http://theproxyconnection.com/socks.html sockscap is the name of the prog. there are some good instructions there and http://theproxyconnection.com/aimproxy.html might be helpful too.

...and instead of signing up and using one of their proxy servers, I just list the gateway computer?

Sorry if I am being obtuse.

You do NOT need a proxy to bypass ICS. I've setup multiple ICS connections and AIM 5.2 works just fine.

However, I did have trouble with a client's AIM 5.2 setup on ICS. He ended up upgrading to the latest version of AIM, which solved his problem.

If you just simply use TCP/IP for internet traffic instead of a proxy, it should all work just fine. ICS in and of itself is not a proxy server.
