Last night I installed SuSE 9 on my laptop, and was supprized to see that it supports my "it-will-never-be-supported-in-Linux" winmodem. Cool.. now all I need is a dialup account ...

Gimp 2 (1.3) will take some getting used to...

I wasn't going to buy SuSE 9, but my son was buying it anyway so I chipped in...

Nothing really revolutionary here (except maybe the 2.6 kernel beta), they could easily have called it SuSE 8.3

I also installed Susu, but 8.2 Pro. Spend $50 on it. Installed off of the DVD (nice feature). Only thing was it wouldn't detect my network card. So untill I can figure out how to get that running I went back to Mandrake 9.1.

I am also interested and curious to try out this version of a great distro. Although I am still dissapointed they dont want to have free versions of their product.

I don't mind paying for it. $50 for the pro suite is better then $300 for anything that M$ would sell.

If you don't mind paying $50, order the

SuSE 9 Professional Upgrade Version -it's the same as the Pro version but without the manuals see here

You can get it 1/2 price by splitting the cost with a buddy.... 3,4,5 buddies... just imagine.

I'm excited to get started but I hardly have the time these days... I've had SuSE 8.2 since it came out and still haven't upgraded from SuSE 8.1 on this rig... everything works...

CMonster,

SuSE is expanding more hardware support; I read somewhere that SuSE 9.0 provides support for 50% of all winmodems. SuSE 7.3 was the only and last box I ever bought; but I am planning to support SuSE by buying the new box after I test it through ftp-install. If I am going to buy it, I will get it from Amazon which usually sells it cheaper (at least 20%). Currently, SuSE 9.0 Pro retails for $64.99 plus free shipping: Here

SuSE 9 Pro comes with an amazing selection of software. I can't wait to get this installed on some other systems. Plenty of multimedia apps for both sound and video, I wonder how well some of these will work.

BTW - The "Upgrade" version of SuSE 9 Pro does NOT require a previous version of SuSE -get it directly from SuSE's online store for $49 +shipping. It has all the CDs and DVD, just no paper manuals --we don't need no stinking manuals

I tried the LiveEval CD;pretty nice-saw all my hardware.Takes you through a sort of mock install so you can verify language, kbd and other things.Booted up fine an surfed the net without having to do a thing(cable).Just had to get rid of 3 files, afterwards, that it left in my Mandrake / partition:
suselive.900(zipped)
suselive.txt
suselive.usr
Thanks for the link,CMonster.I may give 9 a try as it looks like I wont be getting MDK 9.2.Dont see much point.
