Kids IBM Deskstar/Raid problem/question

I have been having problems with this biatch since I changed my drive locations about, here is the problem.

Setup :

Primary ide 0 : Boot H/D (120 gig)
Primary ide 1 : 40 Gig Quantum Fireball

Secondary ide 0 : DVD Writer (Pioneer a106)
Secondary ide 1 : CD Writer (CRX100E)

I have tried the IBM in several places, but when I try and send data to it from the main boot drive I get a delayed windows write failed error and no data is transferred.

The setup is a little confusing to me as its an older drive...The drive is IBM Deskstar DTLA-305040 (5400 rpm) but it has 4 sets of jumper settings :-

16 heads (the one i'm using)
15 Heads
32GB Clip
and Auto Spin Disable

Am I right in using the 16 heads one????

Also, I have a raid M/B, so can I just put this drive as a master on my raid ide channel? If I do, will I need to setup raid??

I have an A bit motherboard, cant remember the model number.

I can only post from experiance concerning the IBM Deskstar hard drive,Model DTLA 305040 which is only 41.1GB
Best I can say is find another hard drive as I've had alot of troubles with this h/d.
Seagate & Maxtor drives seem to do me well.(so far)
also I configure mine to 16 heads/master.
as to the other questions you ask I have no idea.

You do not need to have a RAID array setup to have it on the channel. Just think of the RAID channels as extra IDE channels when not using the RAID array.

As for the IBM drive itself, have you tried running IBM's Drive Fitness Test to determine if the drive is any good?

That might save in the long run. If it doesn't pass the tests, no since in trying to set it up.

Send a message via AIM to lost-and-found
does it by any chance make the "click, click click....click, click, click.....click, click, click" noise? If it does, say hello to the infamous click-of-death and goodbye to the drive.
