cabbie is on a distinguished road
no fixed disk present

i just got a older computer given to me and i tryed to install win 98 but it tells me there is no fixed disk present,every time i fdisk it tells me the samething no fixed disk present

Welcome to the forum!

Either the hard drive is bad.

Or there is no hard drive.

Or a cable is loose.

Or maybe a setting in the bios is bad.

Or possibly, for instance, they could have had another drive onthe cable with the hard drive but took the other drive off which would mean the jumper on the hard drive must be changed.

Have you looked inside to see if it has a hard drive?

Does one show up in bios or on the bios boot screens?

Did you open it up and see if it has a HDD? If it"s there go to the BIOS and see if it is recognised, if not check the ribbon cable and the power cable. :=)
