ok, i'm tired of this, what is wrong with my PC?!

I've asked similar questions here before, but have never really gotten a reply as to what is causing the problem. So i'll post it again, as I seem to have these problems again.

1. My mouse doesn't work after a restart, again. I had this problem the first time I installed my new Epox nforce2 motherboard. But after a month it went away. My mouse would work after every restart. Now, int he past couple weeks, it takes two restarts the get my mouse to work.

2. A couple months ago i had a big problem with my games making my computer BSOD, then restart. Well, after I cleaned my video card every seems smooth, no BSODS, everything is going great. BUT, about 3 days ago, while playing BF1942 late at night(Between 1am and 3am) My computer just restarted, no BSOD, so sign, nothing actually even powered down. Just all of a sudden the boot screen appeared. And its done this every day since then. And its only happened between 1am and 3am. Tonight it was only a few minutes ago at 2:28am. My first thought was a virus, but i have my scanner up-to-date, BUT my scanner is free AVG. Don't know how good it is. But tonight, i wasn't even playing a game, infact, i had just put in a cd into the tray when it restarted, and like normally, no BSODS, or anything powering down, it was quicker than if you hit the restart button.

I've run hard drive tests, with no problems detected. I've done memory tests. I defragged my hard drive(Although, my c drive took 2 boot defrags, and 15 online defrags using diskeepr to get it from a critical state to a normal state) My MTF(is this right?) might still be a little defraged, i couldn't tell from what the results said in the boot defrag. So this might cause a problem.

Please please please, sombody have an answer and post here.

Thanks,
-Biz

you may get better advice than this but....
me personally...I would back-up everything important and do a full format of the hard drive and a fresh install of windows.
I always install Diskeeper, norton antivirus, Spybot, Adaware, Reg Cleaner, and either Aida32 or Sysoft Sandra on a fresh install to clean up and regulate all my computers.
use the latest drivers from the manufacturers and all the critical updates from Microsoft.
do a full defrag after a windows install and youll be surprised how fragmented it is already...
run Sysoft Sandra's burn ins and tests to check its stability.
as an afterthought this could even turn out to be a bad power suply issue.
is it hooked up through a good surge protector?...
system specs and operating system info might also offer up other suggestions as well...

Power supply is only a few months old. Foxxcon/Austin 450watt. I have a few hundred spindles of cds with backed up data just in case.(Mostly anime, lol )

It hasn't been long since I have formatted and freshly installed windows.

I have my computer hooked up to a surge protector, hooked up to another surge protecter, lol

I'll go and check out windows update as it has been a month or so.

All other drivers are up to date except for my video card drivers, as it doesn't really like the newer 40.xx drivers.

System Specs

Xp2100+
gforce2 ti 450
Epox 8RDA+ Nforce 2
40gig WD
60gig maxtor
8gig maxtor
48x Pacific Digital cd-rw drive
512MB DDR 2700
Windows XP Pro

Now the only thing I changed beofre problem #2 happened was I installed the new 1.5 patch for battlefield 1942.

First thing I would recommend is change the "automatically restart" option in "startup and recovery" (START>CONTROL PANEL>SYSTEM>ADVANCED>startup and recovery SETTINGS). That way if you have a system halt, you'll have a clue as to what the nature of the problem is without having to peruse the small memory dump.
Do you have any spyware/adware/malware detectors installed? You'd be surprised what a poorly written spyware program can do to a system (not to mention the "joke" programs). AVG is great (I use it myself), but it isn't designed to detect spy/ad/mal ware. Highly recommend Spybot and Adaware(as mentioned by JP) as well as Pestpatrol.
Would also look at your temps (spontaneous shutdown and/or restarts w/o any dialogs would indicate the possibility of a thermal protection feature in BIOS being invoked).
I'm not a gamer so forgive my ignorance, but is BF1942 an online game? If so, perhaps a firewall would give you some information about any programs trying to access the internet during the 1-3am timeframe.
You could also check your task scheduler to see if anything is set to begin within said timeframe. (Perhaps a corrupt system utility?)
Hope this is of some help....

Your problem of sudden reboots sounds a little like the blaster virus. Although blaster infected computers would reboot more often and randomly, it might not hurt to run a utility to search for and remove blaster if it is there. you can go to Symantec.com to get the utility to do it.

Also, check your mobos manufacturer's website and see if maybe a BIOS update will solve your problem. Or new chipset drivers maybe?

Hope this helped you some.

I have spybot, and adware 6 installed. I am behind my linksys firewall/router. My computer only rebbots between those times if I am useing it, i leave it on all week while i am at school, and it never restarts.

my computer scans every morning at 1am, and I scan it once a week at trend micro's web site. I will see if I can find my norton 2003 virus scanner disc and install that.

I'll check out taskmanager, and will also turn of the restart thingy so I can see what it is next time.

Also its not a thermal issues, my cpu temp never goes above 41°C(Thats running SETI 24/7) and my system temp never goes over 35°C.

Could it also be the MTF file system? Diskeeper sias its fragmented into two pieces, and it might be even more as I filled up my C drive to capacity again today(man am I addicted to P2P ) LOL, came home with only 5 mb free, two weeks ago I came home with only 56K free I was surprised my computer was still running.

1. There's no such thing as MTF filesystem on Windows.. do you mean NTFS?

2. LOW RESOURCES ON SYSTEM DRIVE IS CRITICALLY BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD

3. Did I mention low resources on system drive is bad?

CHANGE your P2P setting to point to a DIFFERENT drive!
That is a BAD idea.
You're lucky Windows didn't completely bork itself and corrupt everything (ANY OS will REALLY complain about this problem)

MTF is the file that stores info about the NTFS file system. Its what basically tells the OS how to use the NTFS file system. And when you fill the drive to capacity is when that file gets corrupted, but i did a couple boot defrags last week and diskeeper said it was fine. I probably need to do it again now.

Oh, and lol, my other hard drive is full too! lol, my 60 gig second drive only have 200mb left, my C drive(40 gigs) has a little over a gig lef ton it now that i cleaned it up a little, and my 8 gig drive is filled as well with mp3s and music videos, lol. I guess i need to find some time to burn more cds.
