Boot disk question

Win98 boot disks are an invaluable tool for me and I use them quite often. But with the disappearance of Win98 machines, they are becoming more rare. I only have one copy of my 98 boot disk now. If I copy and paste the files on the disk, can I copy and paste the files onto other disks at later times to recreate the boot disk?

Thanks!
Dave

But of course.

You could even just use "DISKCOPY A: A:" and make as many floppies as you want.

Or, you could even copy the files to a folder on your harddrive and then just copy the files to a formatted, blank floppy as needed.

Or . . . I think you get the idea.

You might want to check the result if you simply copy & paste the files onto another floppy. I could be mistaken, but I believe that the boot sector will not be copied, so the diskette will not be bootable. Diskcopy will copy the boot sector as well as the rest of the data on the disk.

yeah, Ruler is right, you cant just copy and paste the boot files...you have to put them on with either "format a: /s" (I think) or make the bootdisk with the wizard etc.

but www.bootdisk.com has em all anyway.

I used to like to make my own without all the long winded w98se menu junk.

Id just use the format with system files option from W98se. That gives you the basic boot files (which is all u need for a bios flash disk by the way..well, along with the flash utility itself and the .bin bios file).

But id start with the basic boot files then add the stuff I wanted.

scanreg
xcopy
deltree

etc etc.

I learned a lot of dos skills that way..making boot disks etc.

Thats why now I cant comprehend having a system with no floppy, lol

in winxp you can still create a dos boot disk.. when you try to format A: it gives you the option to create a boot disk ( BUT I THINK it has no support for CD-roms) and I know it has no native NTFS support
