quick question

okay,i have ADSL through my telephone company.i only use it for my playstation2.2 months ago everything was working fine with no problems.all of a sudden i can't connect anymore,so i run the DSL to my computer and try to connect to the internet(no luck).i called my provider and they came and gave me a new modem.i can connect, but while i'm playing online i can't hear anyone talking.they can hear me,but i can't hear them.i know my microphone isn't bad because it works just fine in single player.my modem is a cayman/netopia 3341 residential series.i've checked for packet loss but there is none.i've disabled NAT and enabled bridging but still can't hear.i even tried setting up pinholes for TCP and UDP and that still didn't work.is there anything anyone of you could suggest to get me 100% again?

Obviously your microphone isn't bad if people can hear you. Its your speakers or head phones or the audio device is not working.

at first i thought the headset was giving out on me too,but when i use it for single player i can talk and hear.when i'm online i can even hear the tones when i key up.i spoke with a friend of mine and he said the data packets for voice weren't getting forwarded to the right IP.but what i'm not understanding is i have the same model modem i had before when everything worked fine.

Same model modem, but new none the less. Your old one probably had the forwarding setup. You need to get into your router configuration and forward the needed ports. I'm not familiar with the ports needed for Playstation.

i tried that as well.i'm assuming that this new modem is malfunctioning as well and may need yet another new modem.if i were to buy another modem, would the auto configuration set everything to my providers settings?

Sorry. I Do not know how the auto configuration works on that modem.

When ever I make firmware upgrades or whatever to my router, I always write down critical configuration information, just in case. The point is don't depend on auto config to do things right.

gotcha, turns out a lady i work with has the same service i do with the same modem.she's going to trade modems with me to see if it works with hers.but just in case i'll write down the configuration information from my current modem and see what all is different with hers.
