WinXP Pro vs. Win2KPro

Fellow Members:

I am presently using Win2KPro and have nothing bad to write about it.

My brother is tired of the problems we have all had with Win98, and is trying to decide between WinXP Pro and Win2KPro ...

He is not interested in Linux. Other than the license issue (one OS per computer with XP), which is better in your opinion?

Thx.

The main question...

What will the machine be used for? If you're upgrading from 98, I'm assuming this is an older machine?

Martoch:

Good question . . .

Very basic: Word Processing, Spreadsheets, some graphics, some vid-capture and audio burning, Internet surfing, email, maybe a 2-3 box network ... other small business applications.

Computers vary: XP 1900+, 1.4 GHz TBird, 600 Mhz PIII

PS: I'm running the XP 1900+ with 1 GB of PC2700 and nothing presently on market meets my needs better at this time so as to be worth spending money on,.

personally i would choose win2k, xp is great but seems to slow down as time goes on

either way, both will work fine for whatever you do

both use the NT kernel

i recommended xp because it's easier with drives... other than that... 2k is fine.

GZ: i have no problems with xp pro... it doesn't go slow for me.... maybe that has to do with the fact that I tweaked the !#@$ out of it.

curious drop what do you mean easier with drives?

there really isnt any real true gain between either. yes xp makes things alittle bit easier by adding wizards and bs.

i guess i just have had bad luck on several machines and it slowing down

but its what i hear constantly from other members also

I thoroughly enjoy XP as a home use machine...but for non-gaming machines I would have to say 2K Pro. Seems more "business like" than XP IMHO.
I'm with GZ, screw those damn XP wizards!

Just my $0.73...
