New PC wont booot
Set up a friends new computer:
2500 xp "barton"
PC 3200 Geil
80gb Maxtor
Abit NF7
9600 non-pro
The computer would turn on, and then nothing would show up on the screen. I thought it was video card problem so i brought it over my house and it worked fine. There were no beeps from the mobo, so i guess its down to ram is bad and/or incompatible, bad cpu, or bad mobo. any ideas?

This is the message i get now when i go to boot my PC. Just prior to this i did clean the inside unhooked some fans to clean them out because they were full of dust. I did removed the Prossessor chip. Not sure if this has an effect on it. But not it won't boot up i jsut get this message everytime. the monitor works fine i plugged it into another PC works. The video card is fine plugged that in another PC and that works as well. If someone knows why this has happened please please let me know how to fix it.

i would recommend taking out your memory and reseating...i've had the smae problem with my motherboard, it's really easy on it not to seat it right.
Also do you have any sort of visual display on your mobo? mine has a 7 segment LED display which outputs codes...maybe yours has something like that.

well after sifting throug a lot of newegg reviews one guys said he couldnt get it to work with Geil PC3200
When he brings the computer over tomorrow i will try giving the memory a reseating and if that doesnt work i will throw in some old pc2100 ram...if it works, then i guess it is a return to newegg. Can anyone suggest any good cheap ram that costs around 85-95 (pc3200)?

i would recommend getting some kingston valueram...it's their low end line, but still pretty good quality, and they've got a 512mb stick of pc3200 for $87.

switched out ram, nothing.
switched out cpu, nothing.
On the mobo, there is a red light that runs the whole time from startup, nothing happens, but the light is on. i wonder if this means the mobo is bad?
??????

The red light tells you that the board is powered up, that's a good thing.
What power supply are you using? It should be at least 300W if it's a better brand (Antec, Aopen, etc) or at least have 15A of current output on the +12Vdc line. Anything less can cause no boot or intermitent booting.
Also, did you connect the power line from the 9600 to the power supply? If you didn't, the video card probably doesn't have enough juice to start. The new GPUs are like the new CPUs, they take a pile of juice to get going |

is it near the AGP slot, cos my mobo has such a light n it glows to say whenever the VGA card is incompatible. there is also a green light at the bottom which is always on saying the mobo is getting power.
Thanks

Battery Backup?
Are you plugging it into a battery backup (when it doesnt boot) ?? I run 400W ps on my AMD mb and sometimes I forget and plug them into the (lower end) battery backups I have with a 300W rating. They DO NOT boot. This really gave me a panic on one of my servers. Just something to keep in mind.
I would also look to make sure the mb is seated well, and that the hold-down screws are not touching anything they shouldnt be. If you have something grounding out (possibly shifted in the move to your house) you could get intermittant boot-no boot, could just depend on one thing touching or not.

Power line?
I just put it in the AGP slot, i have never heard of this before
here is a pic of the VC: http://images10.newegg.com/productim...142-012-04.JPG
The power supply is a 350-380 (not exactly sure) ANtec.
The light is actually more towards the bottom center of the board. The red light glows and when i turn on the computer a green light next to it comes on but i do not see anything. Like i said, i swapped the card in an older computer of mine and it worked fine without this "power line"
its not from a battery backup.
and as i said, no beeps or anything.....spooky...i think i will just tell him to send it back to newegg to get a replacement...and btw, the ram was actually crucial PC2700, and it worked fine.
