Graphics card problems

This is a very strange dilemma and i hope you guys on Techimo can help out. My graphics card recently started playing up. First it booted in 800x600 which is strange cos i always run it at 1280x1024. Secondly whenever i attempt to change the resolution back the screen goes blank and then goes back to 800x600! So all that is messing up. So i figured it might be a driver issue so i reinstalled the drivers which hasnt helped a bit. I also reinstalled directx which also hasnt made any difference.

Now this is the wierd part, my previously working virus scanner has started playing up as well. Whenever i try to update AVG it instantly comes up with a reoccuring 'Are you sure you want to cancel the download?' message which can only be closed by Ctrl+Alt+Del.

Has anyone had any problems remotely similar to this? I NEED TO KNOW!

Thanks a bunch

Andy

I think the first thing you need to do is make sure the problem isn't caused by some type of virus or spyware. If you can't get your current virus software updated, maybe you can use one of the online virus scanners. Then download and run adaware to eliminate any spyware that's running on your system. After that, run msconfig and get rid of any unnecessary or suspicious programs that load on startup.

Let us know if that helps. By the way, did you do any software or hardware installations prior to the problems starting??

I figured it out. I did a virus check over my network of comps using norton and it turned out to be some trojan horse virus i had downloaded over 2 months ago. Thanks for taking the time to post though. Make sure your virus checker was updated at least before the 31st and that it can connect and stuff.

Thanks again

Andy
