Help with Direct X please

Installed an older game which installed and apparently over-wrote DX9 with DX6 and now I'm having vid problems. How do I go about re-installing DX9 since I'm so used to getting the updates via Windows Update? Thanks.

Hmm, this is weird, normaly if you try to install an older version of Direct X over the exisiting one, you will get warning that a newer version exists.
And if memory serves me correctly it doesn't let you overrite to a lower version.

Thanks, GZ3!

MrPurple,
That's what I thought but when I ran the DXDIAG utility it was showing files from DX6 and that some of the fiels were out of date.

Running the Direct X setup solved the problem. Thanks again.

that is odd! As MrPurple stated, usually when an older version of DX tries to install itself it either tells the user there is a newer version and warns that it will be overwritten..... Strange....

Normally when I would install this game on a system with a newer version of DX it would say there wasn't enough room to install it's version of DX or something similar although the game would install and run fine. This time it wouldn't run at all saying DX6 must be installed. Out of the 100 times I've installed this game on systems with a more recent version, this is the first time I had ever seen this error. This is a comp I also all of a sudden started having system and registry errors prior to the DX problem and wound up re-installing Win98 again over top. This game I'm talking about had been previously installed but when I tried to run it, it would lock or freeze the comp and I was getting other vid anomolies.
