RADEON 9600 pro

I just got a radeon 9600 pro and i installed installed the drivers, and then i tryed it out on ravenshield and thing runs like crap. On the main menu i get like 300fps, but when i play the game i get anywhere from 5 to 60 fps, and i know thats not right because my geforce2 pro ran the game a lot better than that like consistently in the 40s-50s. Have any of you guys had this problem. Do you know anything that could fix it
thanks

Did you install the drivers on the CD, or download the latest? The CD drivers are probably slightly old. You could try the newest Catalyst drivers and see if that helps.

Also, you might want to update your chipset drivers, if you happen to know it. Visit your computer/motherboard's website and download the latest drivers for it. (In particular, an updated AGP driver might do the trick.)

Oh yea, and welcome to TechIMO! Feel free to message/PM me if you'd like more one-on-one help. (Click the 'profile' or 'pm' button on this post.)

Do you know the model of your computer (if you bought it from Dell, HP, etc..)? Otherwise, you might want to try downloading a program like CPU-Z, clicking the 'Mainboard' tab to show you information about your motherboard.

Let us know what you find, and we can (try) to help you get new motherboard/chipset drivers.

Actually, the drivers on this page should help you out. (Select your operating system first.)

The "Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility" would probably help the most. But, you can also install the BIOS updates if you feel comfortable doing so.

Of course, you should also visit Windows Update to see if you need any additional drivers or patches installed.

Alright. Next step is.. to..

Start -> Run -> dxdiag

On the display tab, you shouldn't see anything disabled (such as DirectDraw, Direct3D, AGP Texture.. ). Run the two tests. They should perform just fine. do they?

Also, you can see if your acceleration is set to the highest:
Right-click your desktop -> Properties. Then on the [settings] tab, hit [advanced...] button. Find the [troubleshoot] tab, and make sure the slider is all the way to the right.

Thirdly, if you know anything about your BIOS, you could try:
(1) making sure AGP is set at the fastest speed your motherboard can handle (4x or 8x probably)
(2) resetting your BIOS defaults
(3) updating your BIOS to the newest version

Lastly, you might want to try benchmarking your system. Head over to FutureMark and run 3Dmark03. You may find your bottleneck.

The 9600 pro is a nice card. If you msg me on AIM (if you have it) or send a PM (Private message), I'll try to help you figure out the issue one-on-one. These kind of things are hard to troubleshoot on a forum.
