VIA Processors

Anyone have any experience with these?
I quite fancy building a little mini-itx system, and want to know how these chips compare to durons/celerons. I'm thinking of buying that one with all the crypto stuff on chip, and sticking OpenBSD on it. Any thoughts?

What's bad about via cpus are that there's no DDR anywhere. 66, 100, 133 fsb are all they got. Probably likewise to the mems.

don't these CPUs run without fans though? I guess for a small multimedia system not having DDR wouldn't be a big problem...or am i wrong?

I heard they don't use fans and they're just as fast as the socket 7s. In fact, it's a socket 370.

isn't the latest VIA processor about 1GHz? Amazing, no fans at 1GHz...I think the 1.2GHz T-bird I burned without a HS lasted 3 seconds before emiting smoke.....

i think when you get up to the 1 ghz they do have a tiny fan on them

do you think that the 1 ghz, and a decent vid card in a pci slot would be good enough for a lan rig?

I think a 1 gig cpu with a 133 fsb can do a decent job. My bad for not keeping up with via. Last I heard was a 733.
