windows\system32\config.sys removed by two year old

Heh, what a hacker this kid is going to be. A customer just called me for help in restoring his computer. He told me a two-year-old nephew got ahold of the PC for just a few moments while he was on the couch. They shutdown the computer when they noticed where he was (messing away with the keyboard). And when they boot Windows tells them "windows\system32\config.sys is missing or corrupt"

What the heck did this kid stumble into?

Well, I'll have him fixed up in no time...knock on wood!

Anybody ever have this one happen? And if so, anything crazy I should look out for? I'm going to do a system repair from the XP Home CD.

typically the file isn't even used in NT based systems

You may even be able to just copy one from another machine and be just fine w/o having to go through a full restore.

Seen it happen, its possible it just got corrupted and its just coincidence of the timing.
