sharing lj1300

I have built a small peer to peer network for someone. 2 pc's running win98se and 1 laptop running XP.All connect via a Dlink switch. Problem is they went and bought an HP LJ1300 with a LIO parrallel adaptor for it.I cannot get the printer to be shared over the network.I installed an epson printer and shared that ok.It was connected to one pc's parallel port & all pc's could print to the epson ok across network. However this new printer will not work.It prints ok from the local machine the ptr is physically connected to.The software refuses to install correctly on the other 98se & xp machines. Do HP disable this kind of printer sharing via a parallel port in order to force you to buy a 1300n or LIO jetdirect module for it costing another £145?

I've never had a problem sharing any HP deskjet or laserjet printers on peer to peer networks.
