I had a similar problem with a Ks5a board. There is something about the startup button being depressed (shorted) for more than two seconds in the mobo manual.

I sometimes had to power down and restart a couple of times to get it to boot to Windows. It eventually always booted. Never did fix the problem, gave the comp away.

Disconnect everything from the board except:
cpu, ram module(1), video card, psu

No keyboard, mouse..no other cards..just the bare minimum to test the board. You connect the psu to the board, and short the two pins where the case switch plugs into with a small screwdriver or something simular..just a touch then remove.. if the cpu fan starts you have the psu energized. You should get something to the monitor...if you do, turn the power off and begin adding one thing at a time back until it fails.

The problem could also be the motherboard shorting to the case.. I would prefer the motherboard be out of the case and on a book or something to be sure it is not shorting out somewhere.

Try the above and report back.

Best thing to do is what Bovon has mentioned.
But I would go one step further and take out either the RAM or the Vid card, since by this time you should get error beeps when you turn on the system.
If you don't then you have a posibility of a defective mobo. The next step would be to take it out of the case and try runing it to get rid of the posability of a short.

But if all is good start adding things back one by one to determine what device is causing the problem.

One thing to keep in mind is that your PS might not be up to the jpb anymore, and it will work with the minimal amount of devices connected, but might crap out on you with everything in the box.
Its doubt full that this is the case, but it is something to keep in mind since it can be a posibility.

Strange thing is that the PC has started booting again with no problems. I guess the mobo might be a bit flaky, well it was pretty cheap. Im thinking I may ditch this system and build one of those SSF systems.

I have repaired 2 of these boards...they acted a lot like you described, but we never got that far testing because yours went back to work...
