If I understand correctly your disk works in other computers, but not your machine?

Sounds like a bad drive, or maybe dirty, try blowing out any dust in the drive.

you COULD try a floppy drive cleaning diskette although most people just buy a new drive since theyre 10 bucks. in the meantime if the file is small enough to fit on a floppy have you thought about emailing it to a web account since you need it? or does this particular pc not have a cd burner or web access................

btw, welcome to techimo.

Yep that's the symptom of the bad drive. I don't know what it is, (perhaps my cheapness ) But I swear they have some kind of self destruct in them. Mine go out about every 6 or 12 months.
Don't buy cheep refurbished parts!

The good thing is edlyn, that you can buy a floppy drive at places like Best Buy or Circuit City, they are more than 10 dollars, about 25 or 30 if I remember, but if you're not familiar with computer parts and stores it's better than nothing and faster than ordering online if you're in a hurry. Don't let the store put it in! You can go home and do it yourself. If you have a problem we can help here

hey surreal, how ya been? actually, if youre just a tad bit handy, buy this floppy from new egg for 7 bucks and 5 bucks shipping. thats alot better than than the 20-30 youll spend at a bigger computer store. everyone here including myself swears by new egg as well.
